DETECTIVE DIVISION
The Detective Division is headed by the Detective Division Commander Capt. Gary Hanus.
While primary responsibility for the investigation of most crimes rest with the patrol officer in which whose beat the crime occurred, officers seldom have the time to become involved in complex and/or lengthy investigations. In these cases, assistance and follow-up are provided by detective personnel, who also have primary responsibility for the investigation of major crimes, such as homicide and rape. The Detective Division is also responsible for the investigation of vice and organized crime as well as criminal intelligence collection and dissemination.
DRUG TASK FORCE UNIT
The Drug Task Force Unit lead by Sgt Andy Zeigler. The unit is responsible for handling drug investigation (with primary emphasis on major suppliers of illegal drugs) and assisting Patrol Division with drug investigations. The unit may also handle sensitive or complex investigation as assigned by the detective division commander.
CRIMINAL DETECTIVE UNIT
The Criminal Detective Unit is tasked with investigating major crimes which include robberies, sexual exploitation cases and homicides. The unit is overseen by Sgt. Kyle Tonniges. Detectives use advanced technology and techniques to investigate criminal activity such as Computerized Voice Stress Analysis and Forensic interviewing. Detectives work closely with prosecutors to ensure successful prosecution.
